Covers Radio Still a Good Idea!

Sirius XM

Not too long ago I batted about the idea of Sirius coming up with a Covers Radio Music Station. Since the whole company seems to be interested in coming up with programming that is frankly useless (Fantasy Sports), then perhaps I can renew my wish. Frankly I realistically believe that this would be more suited to a limited week-long engagement on Classic Rewind.

I love hearing other artists play their interpretations of great songs. Some have made the old classics into new ones just by cutting them in a modern way. Some artists prefer to give a close reading to the original while others want to put their own spin on a great classic. Either way it is a workable format that I am sure listeners would enjoy for a few days.

Cover bands as a whole play a very vital role in local community music scenes. It is important to get out and support the really good bands in your town. Many play covers to entertain a crowd of drinkers who just want to have a good time. Others mix in the covers with a few originals in order to keep things interesting.

Having spent some time in cover bands, I can say it is a fun way to interpret other songs as saw them. The crown sometimes does not expect this song or that song. When a few crowds heard the last band I was in and the version of Metallica’s “The Four Horsemen”, people started coming out to our shows just to hear that.

What are your favourite versions of cover songs? Post away!
