Motley Crue
Continuing my look at some favourite artists who appear regularly on the Sirius Dial. The very first of my favourite bands was Motley Crue.
The Crue appear regularly on Sirius 80′s on 8 and Sirius 23 Hair Nation. This is a band that could be called the perfecters of the Glam Metal movement. The Crue were not the first, but they certainly were among the best at what they did. This group of musicians also have seen their share of ups and especially downs. Leader and bassist Nikki Sixx eventually wrote a book about his battle with drugs. While drummer Tommy Lee battled jail time and a pair of rocky relationships. Not to mention his famous appearance in a wildly popular sex tape.
Guitarist Mick Mars is definetly the sage and wisest of the lot. Mick had already been there and done that as the band started to get into some troubled times. Mick’s guitar work is among the best of the musical genre.
For me with The Crue, it has always been about the great music. It is loud and abrasive glam metal which pissed a ton of people off and sent Christian groups running for their bibles and pens to write letters to Tipper Gore and her cronies at the PMRC.
Theatre of Pain remains my favourite of the groups records. It scored a number one hit with “Home Sweet Home” and also kicked major ass with a cover of Brownsville Station’s “Smokin in The Boys Room”. Personal favourite song of theirs is and always has been “Raise Your Hands To Rock”. It is a quintessential anthem for rock and even metal.
The Crue’s place in music history is long secured. People love the badass image they personify, and fans continue to blast the songs all over the world in their stereos.
