New Age and Ambient music dominate the Spa on Sirius 73. Another welcome part of the Sirius dial. The majority of the music out there is commercial type stuff that many people hear and are familiar with. The kind of music on the Spa can be great nature soundscapes with layers of lush keyboards, or smooth jazz with extended guitar soloing and peaceful themes. Not something you would hear on Terrestrial Radio.

Much work and consideration goes into the creative process for this kind of music. Much of this is about experimenting with different sounds and how they will turn out in a final mix. Improvisational flights of several minutes, recorded and paired down to a few minutes worth listening to. With the great advancements technology has made, creating this and other kinds of music has become more of a joy to the composers behind all of it. Listeners have benefitted tremendously.

Some have argued that music with this much electronic “interference” has been harmful to quality. I disagree and instead believe better and more original compositions have come out.  More of the technologically inclined people of the world are combining the best of both worlds by taking what they have learned in computers and expanding it into their music.
