Rush
This will be the last of the artist profiles I will do for a few weeks. I have enjoyed writing about some of my favourites and listening to them for inspiration.
Being Canadian, I do maintain a love of certain Canadian bred music that has inspired me. My second favourite act of all time gave me the best concert I ever went to and inspired me to pick up and play bass.
Rush started out as bassist/singer Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer John Rutsey. After the first self-titled record, Rutsey was out and Neil Peart was in. Neil would become defined not just for his amazing drumming but also his brilliant lyrics. This began the long-standing relationship that continues today. Rush are one of the most successful progressive rock acts of all time. Even with their success they elected to remain Canadian based instead of moving to the States. They continue to pack stadiums and concert halls across the world.
Rush were inspired by one of the greatest power trios of all time in Cream. Rush arguably now own this title. Anyone who has seen them live may even attest to this.
A personal favourite record for me is the widely popular “Moving Pictures” record. This contains material that is still played live regularly. Some of the band’s more recent material also stands up well to the more popular music of today. Of the last decade, “Vapour Trails” really jumps out of the stereo. It is heavy as hell and poetic!
Rush are heard mostly on Sirius 19 The Boneyard but occasionally are on the play list at Sirius 8 80′s on 8.
