Sirius 17 Jam On!
Ever go to an outdoor music show or festival and just soak in the sounds? Ever sit through a twenty minute or hour long version of a 5 minute song? Sirius 17 Jam On is a great home for live performances and studio gems from great bands like Phish, The Allman Brothers, and other acts who enjoy stretching their music into long trippy journeys of masterful musicianship and melody. Jam On has opened me up to many other great acts that are younger in age but wise in spirit. Listening to some of the great work on this channel is also inspiring as a musician. As a bass player I love to hear great players like Phish’s Mike Gordon open up on his solos and extend trade offs with his bandmates.
I should mention that while the Grateful Dead is one of the great bands on Jam On that you will hear on a regular basis, it is worth checking out the Dead on a channel all of their own up on Sirius 32. On the Grateful Dead Channel you will hear extended interviews and live performances from one of the original Jam bands who inspired a generation of others.
I mention my affection for the great band Phish and how prominently they are featured on this channel. Jam On features a full length CD from the band’s Live Phish series every single weekday at 7 p.m. I strongly encourage subscribers to check these guys out. Phish are a great example of how the perfect Jam band can function with great improvisation and musicality.
Jam On is another great space of musical air that we as subscribers are fortunate to have as part of our listening package.
