Sirius Classical Stations – The Roots of Modern Music
Another set of forgotten channels are the great channels containing Classical music. Classical music for many is the roots of most modern music as we know it today. Although I am mainly a metal person, it was through listening to metal masters such as Yngwie Malmsteen tha my interest in Classical music blossomed more. Malmsteen sited so many different composers as influences into his own music that I started checking out different composers. The only Classical music I remembered was anything by Beethoven from my early Piano lessons days. That was pretty much it. Thanks to Malmsteen, I now site J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi among my favourite composers.
Sirius 78 is Metropolitan Opera – Now I am not a major fan of Opera music, but respect the talent that goes into performing it. Take the voice out of Opera, then it is Classical music again. Just the same, those who love Opera will find great programming here.
Sirius 79 is Sirius Pops – These are the modern orchestras of our time performing classic pieces but from more modern recordings from some of the most recognized conductors of the recent eras.
Sirius 80 is Symphony Hall – My personal favourite of the bunch , this channel sort of brings everything together. Playing the best pieces of all time from a myriad of composers. There is also a great feature where live concert recordings from the New York Philharmonic are spun weekdays from 9-11 in the evening, and in the early Saturday hours from midnight through 2.
Even if you are not a fan of Classical, it is worth checking out a half hour of this programming to get a taste of the roots of music. Enjoy!
