Tough and Truth talking Radio jock Todd Clem (a.k.a. Bubba The Love Sponge) did not return to Sirius at the beginning of the year despite a barrage of e-mails to SiriusXM’s head office requesting that they give him a deal. Bubba and his crew host a wildly successful Terrestrial Radio show and featured their own uncensored show most Friday mornings on Sirius at Howard 101.

As of this post drafting (January 10, 2011) Howard Stern insisted that he would love to have a way to bring Bubba and his crew back to the channels in some way.

Bubba seems content with his new home at Radio IO where he has taken many of his loyal Bubba Army members with him.

Meanwhile Howard Stern has been filling in the space of time once occupied by Bubba’s show with “Mammary Lane” classic Stern moments.

The speculation continues to grow on whether or not The King of All Media will return to Studio 69 in 2011. Stern’s contract is up at the end of the year and Sirius will need to move soon in order to prevent a lucrative offer from taking Stern and his advertising power with him.

It was recently suggested that even with the financial troubles at SiriusXM, Stern is rumoured to have brought in a whopping total of a billion dollars in advertising revenue since the commencement of his contract. Meanwhile SiriusXM continues to review the contracts of other personalities and program formats searching for ways to save money.

SiriusXM has the opportunity to re-sign someone who is arguably one of the biggest names it will ever host on the airwaves. While it would certainly be understandable should Howard elect to retire after a 30 plus year as a revolutionary radio host, it makes better sense for SiriusXM to give Howard another 5 year deal. This would be long enough for advertising sales to really give the boost the company needs and for better financial decisions to be made elsewhere in the company.

Stern has been approached by a handful of companies to return to Terrestrial Radio. I would personally hate to see this happen since the kind of formatting Howard is allowed to present on his channels is something he worked his entire career towards achieving.

Hopefully on these pages by the end of the year, I and other Stern fans will be toasting his staying with SiriusXM. The world needs more of his sense of humour and blunt honest precision in a world full of phonies and pathetic news broadcasts.

I have spent some time reviewing the list of who’s who on Sirius 102 and 108, Sirius Stars and Stars Too respectively. I have jokingly told some subscribers that these two channels appear to be the last real havens for once popular talk show hosts, be it television or radio, to give these people an avenue to speak out on. This is of course not entirely true. I am still in amazement that Dr. Laura pulls in the listening audience with such ease. I can recall hearing her evening show on AM terrestrial radio in Calgary during the night shift. She was and still is controversial and over the top in her delivery. I may disagree with her position on so many things, but I still respect her ability to speak her mind and say what is on her mind.

Sirius’s recent addition of Rosie O’Donnell and her Rosie Radio Show (Sirius 102), has brought a loyal band of her followers over to Sirius.

I will be the first to tell you I am not a major fan of Rosie and some of the things she has said. Take free speech into consideration and it is all good to hear her do her thing, I am just not a fan of how she communicates certain ideas. It seems she very much has a home on Rosie Radio and is pulling in some great guests and good reviews.

Sirius Stars Too features a show from one of my favourite stand-outs on the entertainment dial, third to Howard Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge, that being the Jay Thomas show. Jay’s show is entertaining and thought provoking. They are also heard on Howard 101 on Friday mornings at 7 a.m. and are worth a listen.

If you never thought to go to these channels, go to the Sirius website and review the channel listings for further information under Sirius Stars and Stars Too.

XM and Sirius Radio are pulling a few surprise moves in the latter half of May, offering out elements of Sirius’ top (and usually exclusive) programming in an effort to attract more subscribers to the Best of Sirius package.

From May 18th through until the 25th XM subscribers will be able to enjoy a taste of what Sirius has to offer. Broadcasts will include channels and shows from Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge and more.

The decision to essentially “loan out” key programming is another go by Sirius to entice XM listeners through the kind of trial offers that have worked best in the company’s past.

Talker’s Magazine has one again published their Heavy Hundred list of top talk show radio hosts to the dismay of Sirius XM Radio stars who have once again fallen dangerously low in the notable rankings.

This year sees Howard Stern dropping from last year’s position as #13 to an unimpressive #32 while only three years earlier he was #1 on the list. Other stars have slipped in spots as well with Bubba the Love Sponge falling to #51 alongside Opie and Anthony, who have reached #52 after both sets of hosts achieved higher marks in previous years.

The list is entirely subjective (as it is determined entirely by Talker’s staff impressions) but, just the same, the bad press is sure to upset many Sirius XM talk show fans.

After the past few days saw Bubba the Love Sponge effectively announcing his plans to leave Sirius XM the host has now reversed his previously stated termination and decided to stay on with satellite broadcasters.

Sirius XM’s Chief Content Officer, Scott Greenstein must have been listening to Bubba’s complaints against the company from this week and acknowledged the station’s need for the popular program’s continuation.

Bubba has apparently signed a lengthy contract with Sirius XM which ensures his (and his crew’s) rights to go forward with their uncensored and massively successful show.

Good news for all fans of the Love Sponge to be sure.

Bubba the Love Sponge, one of Sirius XM’s most popular radio hosts may be leaving the world of satellite radio in January if rampant speculation proves true. The personality has been in talks with Cox Broadcasting which makes his future with Sirius an unclear one.

Bubba’s departure would see Neil Rogers and Phil Hendrie replace his spot on the Howard 101 station while the host would go on to work on a different form of syndication with the aforementioned Cox Broadcasting network.

There is hope for fans of the outspoken personality however as recent news has detailed that Bubba’s show has been picked up by four new network markets.
