The Federal Communications Commission (or FCC) has been asked to hold off on new policies related to satellite radio in the immediate future. Issues regarding Sirius XM Radio’s HD broadcasts and more are all likely to be pushed aside for now as a result of the order.

Senator Jay Rockefeller and Representative Henry Waxman recently requested that FCC Chairman, Kevin Martin postpone actions regarding satellite radio until the new presidential administration (under Obama) is instituted in the New Year.

Martin’s position on forcing HD compliant satellite receivers and clearing up terrestrial radio interference complaints will now have to be dealt with months from now, a wait that is sure to be difficult for many Sirius XM fans.

The Minority Media and Telecommunications Council (or MMTC) has been lobbying the FCC for the inclusion of HD radio capabilities in the majority of new satellite receivers.

The MMTC is hoping to achieve a breakthrough which would find the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulating a process wherein future models of SDARS satellite receivers would be able to properly comply with AM, FM and HD signal input and scanning.

MMTC spokespeople expressed a desire for Sirius XM Radio to make use of their merger savings in order to provide a truly practical alternative to terrestrial radio broadcasts.

The Federal Communications Commission (or FCC) has granted Sirius XM Radio an extension for their previously ordered addition of third party channel support. A decision was reached by the FCC after a deadline for reconfiguring of Sirius XM’s business was passed on November 28th.

Sirius XM and the FCC had previously agreed that the satellite radio giant would have to lease out eight percent of their channel capacity to third party channels after the corporate merger earlier this year.

Troubles with figuring out exactly how to add the new channel support has led the FCC to reconsider the time-line which is now extended to a February 27th 2009 deadline.
